Hello, today I’m taking you step by step through how to claim, verify and enable Rich Pins for your WordPress Blog.
Before you start with the steps in this tutorial, you need to make sure you have a Pinterest Business account. If you don’t have a Pinterest account yet, you can set up your Business account here, or if you already have a Personal account, you can convert it to a Business account here.

You might be wondering why you even need Rich Pins, or exactly what they are. Pinterest tells us “Rich Pins give more context about an idea because they show more information directly on a Pin.

Before you can apply to enable Rich Pins for your Blog, you need to ‘claim’ your Blog. Claiming your Blog also gives you access to Pinterest analytics from your website so you can track which pins are most popular and driving most Traffic.
How to Claim your Blog on Pinterest
Step 1: Go to your Pinterest account settings, then scroll down to where it says ‘claim website’. Enter your Blog URL and click the ‘claim website’ button.
Step 2: You will get an option of verifying your Blog by entering a line of HTML or uploading a file. Select ‘add HTML tag’. The next screen will supply you with the HTML code to copy & paste.
Step 3: Open a new Tab and log in to your WordPress dashboard. Install and activate the ‘Header and Footer Scripts’ plugin.
Step 4: Open the Header and Footer scripts plugin from the ‘settings’ section on the dashboard menu. Paste the code you copied from Pinterest into the ‘Scripts in Header’ section, then ‘save’.
Step 5: Now go back to Pinterest, click ‘Next’ and then ‘Submit’ and you will get a message telling you to stay tuned and wait for an email.
Step 6: When your Blog is successfully verified you will get a confirmation email from Pinterest and a green tick will appear next to your Blog address in your settings.
When your Blog is claimed, you will then be able to apply for Rich pins.

How to Apply for Pinterest Rich Pins
Step 1: The easiest way to get Rich pins is with the Yoast plugin, which will add the required metadata to your Blog for you.
Step 2: When you have installed and activated Yoast, head to the ‘social’ tab on the Yoast plugin, then select ‘Facebook’ and make sure the ‘add Open Graph Metadata slider is enabled.
Step 3: After that you need to activate your Rich Pins. To do this just enter the URL of one of your Blog posts in the Rich Pin Validator.
Step 4: When validation is successful, then click the ‘apply now’ button to apply for your Rich Pins to be activated.
Step 5: You will get a success message and your new pins should be displaying as Rich Pins within a couple of days. It can take a few weeks for old pins to convert to displaying Rich pin data.
And that’s it! You’ve now claimed and verified your Blog and you have Rich Pins.
